Social Security was established in America in 1935. The president that put this through was Franklin Roosevelt. The Social Security program was established to help elders and disabled people. Letters were coming in to Washington D.C. asking for help with money and simple things needed for living. There were earlier forms of Social Security starting in the Civil War.
When the Civial War was done there were many family members killed which left there family behind. Widows and orphans would recieve a pension for their killed family members. Disabled veterans were also being helped out with a pension.
A way to ensure that everyone will be able to have social security in the future is if we start seeing on who really needs social security today and who really doesn't need it right now. For those that don't need it right now it is almost like wasting money. Also the economy coul dbe playing a part on it.
